Effie Gwendolyn Yocom (Nichols)
Effie Gwendolyn Nichols Yocom was born July 16, 1922 in Marshall, Texas and died on March 17, 2011 in Nashville, Arkansas.

Gwen was a devoted elementary school teacher in the Texarkana area for over twenty years. She was an accomplished musician and composed over 200 songs. She had boundless energy and was active in the teachers’ organization Delta Kappa Gamma at the local, regional and national level for many years. She was a P.E.O. member and also active in the Wednesday Music Club of Texarkana. She was a former organist at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church, Tapp Memorial United Methodist Church of Texarkana and First United Methodist Church of New Boston, Texas. Gwen made it her mission in life to make everyone with whom she came in contact feel loved, accepted and appreciated.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Lewis W. Nichols and Mary Jo Britt Nichols, her sister, Martha Joanna Nichols Harrison, brothers, Talley Webber Nichols and Lewis W. Nichols, her husband of 62 years, John William Yocom, ll, a daughter, Kathie Jo Yocom Miot and a son, John W. Yocom,lll.

Gwen is survived by a daughter, B.G. Yocom Coulter and husband, Don, of Nashville, Arkansas, a grandson, Chad Christopher Miot and wife, Amanda, of Texarkana, a granddaughter, Tracy Michelle Womack VanY and husband, Matt of Fort Worth, Texas, granddaughter, Candace Cathleen Womack Swenke and husband, Steve of Waco, Texas. Also, surviving her are four great grandchildren; Zack Christopher Miot, Cora Kathryn VanY, Daniel Wesley Swenke and Sophia Gwendolyn Swenke.

Services will be held on Sunday, March 20th at First United Methodist Church, Nashville, Arkansas at 2:00 pm. with Rev. Paul Coy officiating. The burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Texarkana, Texas at 4:30 p.m.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, March 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Nashville Funeral Home, Nashville, Arkansas.
