Edward Leroy Poitra
Edward Leroy Poitra, 81 of Nashville, Arkansas, passed away, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at his home in Nashville. He was born April 2, 1933 in Dunseith, North Dakota to the late Ike and Martha Smith Poitra. He was a retired Union Iron Worker for many years. Mr. Poitra was of the Catholic faith. He loved his cattle and tending to them, naming each one and making sure he put up enough hay for each winter. He considered himself just a common working man. He loved buying vehicles and listening to old country music. He was very proud of his heritage, being a tribal member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa’s in Belcount, North Dakota. He was also a loving and caring husband and family was of the utmost importance to him.
Preceding him in death besides his parents, was 5 sisters and 3 brothers, also a great grandson, Austen Joseph Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 59 years, Delores Edwards Poitra of Nashville, Arkansas
1 daughter, Debora Ann Poitra Thomas of Denver, Colorado
1 son, Ronald Lee Poitra of Baton Rouge, Louisiana
1 Brother, Eugene “Snowflakes” Poitra of Dunseth, North Dakota
5 Grandchildren, Crystal Marie Cody, Bradley J. Thomas, Gregory Lee Thomas, Sharon Poitra and Lee Poitra
8 Great Grandchildren, Derrin Thomas, Landon Jacob, Chase Bradley, Alyshia Marie, Noah Matthew, Jaylen Dean Jennifer and Sheaiah Cody.
4 Great-great grandchildren, Sami, Nate, Penelope and Chavelle
And a host of other family and friends.
Services will be Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10 am at Nashville Funeral Home with Michael Collins officiating. Interment will follow in County Line Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday and Thursday until 9 pm each night.
