Obituary for Barney Thornton

Barney  Thornton

Barney Joseph Thornton, 83, of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Saturday, August 25, 2012 in Texarkana.
Mr. Thornton, a Korean War Veteran, had degrees from Nashville High School, the University of Arkansas, and East Texas State University, and was retired from Wadley hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Elizabeth Copeland Thornton and his brother, Oris Thornton.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Jane Johnson Thornton of Texarkana, Arkansas, his daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Joe Heinlein of Dallas, Texas, his son Richard and daughter-in-law, Kellyann Thornton of Little Rock, Arkansas. Two sisters, Irene Reigner of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Judy and husband Dexter Harris of Lockhart, Texas. Three grandchildren, Alex, Emily and Matthew Thornton and his aunt, Opal Cox of Hope, Arkansas. Many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial Services will be Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 11 am. in the First United Methodist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas with Vida Williams and Bruce Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 6th and Laurel Streets, Texarkana, Arkansas 71854.
